International Workshop: Urban Design Towards TOD Development

The TOD model is a strategic urban development framework centered around the urban public transportation system. For a new city, TOD serves as a planning solution, a typical development strategy, and a foundation for developing a sustainable urban structure from the outset. For developed cities facing the risk of "overload" in their infrastructure, the TOD model is considered an effective urban redevelopment solution, providing an option to alleviate pressure on infrastructure systems while being environmentally friendly. In Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City has planned to pilot the implementation of a TOD urban chain along the metro line, with the expectation of creating a turning point in infrastructure development as the new Metro system becomes operational.

The Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Urban Design Workshop is organized to provide an opportunity for students from two urban design programs at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Thammasat University (Thailand) to initially engage with the TOD model—one of the smart and sustainable urban models successfully applied in many major cities around the world.

The workshop will be co-guided by faculty members from ISCM and Thammasat University, Thailand

Requirements for Student Participants 

• Students majoring in Architectural and Urban Design Inclusive Smart City at UEH University

• Proficiency in design software is an advantage

• Good command of English communication

• Able to commit to full participation throughout the workshop period
