M.Sc.Daniela Hurtarte is an urban planner and architect with 10+ years of
international experience across Latin America, North America, and Southeast
Asia. As an urban project specialist for UN-Habitat, she has worked in the
development of multi-scale planning instruments for cities across Colombia,
Guatemala, Argentina, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nepal and Vietnam.
She has also led capacity-building for local authorities on UN-Habitat’s Our City Plans toolbox
across the Americas and Southeast Asia, and contributed to participatory design
work for Brooklyn Bridge Park while completing an M.Sc. in Urban Placemaking &
Management at Pratt Institute, New York. Her practice spans neighbourhood
regeneration, public-space and mobility planning, and climate-resilient,
net-zero urban transitions; in Guatemala she advanced district-scale planning
within the city’s Urban Planning Department. A member of the Guatemalan
Association of Urban Planners and the PlacemakingX Network, she has lectured at
Universidad del Istmo (Guatemala) and as a guest at Tecnológico de Monterrey
(Mexico).
Recently joined ISCM-UEH as a Lecturer, where she equips students to
understand how public space generates economic, cultural, and social value,
integrating placemaking into the design and management of contested urban spaces
in Vietnam.
