Opening Registration Form of International Workshop: “Reading our Cities” – Through Architectural Elements and Urban Experience
Have you ever wondered how "micro" elements like a window frame, a balcony, or a simple porch can shape the essence of local architecture and our daily urban experience? More importantly, how can these subtle details be interpreted to inspire future visions and innovative design strategies that harmonize local identity with global contemporary trends?
To explore these questions, the Institute of Smart City and Management (ISCM) – UEH, in collaboration with the Tokyo University of Science (Japan) and Yuan Ze University (Taiwan), proudly presents the International Workshop: "READING OUR CITIES: Through Architectural Elements and Urban Experience."

The workshop begins with online sessions in which students form international teams and conduct preliminary research on architectural elements in their home countries. During the in-person sessions in Ho Chi Minh City, teams will analyze selected urban areas and buildings, examining how façade composition, doors, windows, balconies, and other architectural components, together with patterns of human behavior and interaction, contribute to the spatial and social character of the city. Building upon these observations and analyses of local architectural and urban characteristics, each team will develop a concrete design proposal that translates their insights into a spatial intervention. The proposal may operate at different scales, ranging from an urban strategy for a particular area to a small architectural intervention such as a street corner, a public pavilion, or a micro public space.
The final outcomes will include conceptual and analytical diagrams, architectural drawings (plans, sections, and elevations), perspective visualizations, and physical models. Through this process, the workshop aims to bridge observation, research, and design experimentation, revealing new possibilities for reinterpreting local architectural elements and proposing innovative approaches for cities whose structures and transformations are increasingly complex.
