Smart Mobility and Operation Management (BMOM): Exploring 5 Core Knowledge Areas
In the context of rapid urbanization and continuously expanding transportation infrastructure, the key challenge today is how to effectively manage, operate, and optimize multimodal transport systems. From airports and seaports to metro networks, everything is being connected into an integrated ecosystem, where every operational decision impacts economic flows and the experiences of millions of people. This creates a significant talent gap—not only in quantity but also in the need for advanced expertise, technological skills, and the ability to master modern systems.

This is precisely why the Bachelor’s Program in Business Management of Operations and Mobility (BMOM), offered by the Institute of Smart City and Management (ISCM – University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City), was established and strategically designed to directly address the demand for high-quality human resources in Vietnam’s transport economics sector, especially in the context of digital transformation and sustainable development.
By enrolling in the BMOM program, students are equipped with five core knowledge areas, developed with an interdisciplinary and highly practical approach:
General Education: Provides a strong foundation in economics, management, mathematics, and systems thinking, enabling students to understand the broader socio-economic landscape and the role of transportation in national development.
Innovative Technology and Data: Delivers in-depth knowledge of AI, Big Data, IoT, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and simulation technologies. This area equips students with the ability to analyze real-time data, forecast demand, and optimize operations across all modes of transport.
Operations and Mobility: The core specialized knowledge area, focusing on operations management, planning, system scheduling, and multimodal transport optimization. Students learn how to seamlessly integrate different transport modes (road, rail, inland waterways, maritime, and aviation) to create efficient, intelligent, and connected mobility systems.
Policy and Sustainable Development: Provides insights into national transport policies, infrastructure planning, environmental impact assessment, and green mobility development. This area helps students understand and apply international standards in safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance in transport project management.
Internship and Graduation: Emphasizes hands-on experience through internships at enterprises, state-owned corporations, and large-scale infrastructure projects, combined with a graduation thesis or capstone project. Students apply their knowledge to solve real-world challenges in airports, seaports, metro systems, high-speed railways, and integrated transport networks.
Thanks to this five-pillar structure, BMOM students not only gain solid theoretical knowledge but are also ready to work immediately after graduation in operations management roles across the entire multimodal transport ecosystem from coordinating flight operations and passenger flows at airports, managing port operations, and scheduling metro and railway systems, to optimizing integrated logistics networks across road, inland waterway, and maritime transport.
The unique integration of technology, operations, and policy is what differentiates BMOM from traditional transport-related programs. It opens up diverse career opportunities, from transport enterprises to large-scale infrastructure projects and government agencies, while shaping a new generation of professionals capable of operating and building intelligent mobility systems of the future. This is the ideal choice for those who are ready to proactively embrace and lead the transformation of the transportation sector in the new era.
