From classroom to real-world practice: Experiencing modern Lab systems in Smart Mobility & Operation Management Studies
As smart cities, sustainable transportation, and operational technologies continue to evolve rapidly, learning today goes far beyond textbooks and traditional lectures. Students need hands-on exposure to truly understand how data-driven operations, mobility systems, and modern management frameworks function in real life.

That is why the Bachelor of Business Management in Operations & Mobility (BMOM) program at the Institute of Smart City & Management (ISCM), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), has heavily invested in an integrated laboratory ecosystem known as MOVE SYSTEM, creating a learning environment where students gain knowledge through real-world experience, technology simulation, and practical problem-solving for future mobility systems.
Unlike traditional learning models, MOVE SYSTEM is designed as a modern lab ecosystem that allows students to directly analyze data, simulate operational systems, and develop smart mobility solutions. This is also one of the key advantages of Experiential Learning at ISCM, where students not only acquire knowledge but also actively practice, interact, and apply what they learn to real-world situations.
Within the MOVE SYSTEM ecosystem, each lab represents an essential component of the future mobility and operations industry:
Smart Mobility Lab serves as a research and simulation space for intelligent transportation systems, where students work with real-time traffic data, Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) models, and modern smart city solutions.
CE-Rail@UEH focuses on urban railway and metro systems, helping students understand how large-scale public transportation networks are operated, coordinated, and optimized through technology and data.
SEE Living Lab specializes in traffic safety and mobility behavior research, enabling students to analyze user experiences and propose safer and more sustainable transportation solutions.
CTrl Lab introduces students to carbon emission challenges in transportation through data science applications, fostering a mindset of green operations and sustainable development — an increasingly important factor in the future of infrastructure and mobility industries.
Beyond classroom and laboratory learning, students also participate in real-world projects with industry partners, domestic and international field trips, and internships at enterprises, state-owned corporations, and major infrastructure projects. These experiences allow students to gain early exposure to professional working environments and understand how real operational systems are managed and optimized on a daily basis.
As Vietnam continues to accelerate the development of transportation infrastructure — including metro systems, bus rapid transit, ports, logistics networks, and smart cities — the demand for professionals capable of operating systems through technology and data will continue to grow significantly. This is not only an emerging academic field, but also a highly promising industry for the years ahead.
For those who aspire to become pioneers in operating the smart transportation systems of the future, the BMOM program offers the opportunity to begin that journey through modern learning experiences, advanced practical environments, and direct exposure to the trends shaping the future of smart urban development under Vietnam’s national development strategy.
